Under the direction of the District’s Utility Systems Manager, the Utility System Operator I, II, & III supports the District’s Utility Systems Manager in operating and maintaining the District’s water, sewer, solid waste, lighting, and facilities infrastructure, including skilled and unskilled work associated with infrastructure repairs, rehabilitation, and light construction activities, and during emergencies. This position is in a field environment, with exposure to weather, traffic, and other hazardous conditions, and extensive contact with the public in a customer service environment. Functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for strenuous physical activities and extensive physical labor. Applicants must live or be willing to relocate within 30 minutes of Oceano.
Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; CalPERS retirement; paid vacation, sick time, bereavement leaves, jury duty time, paid standby time once a Distribution license is obtained; and work clothing and boot allowances.
Current pay ranges: Utility Systems Operator I $24.52 - 32.88 per hour Utility Systems Operator II $26.35 – 35.33 per hour Utility Systems Operator III $28.33 - $37.99 per hour (depending on prior work experience)
The position is eligible for representation by the Service Employees International Union, Local 620 (SEIU 620). Candidate must possess a California Class C driver’s license at the time of employment and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Class A driver’s license during employment with the District. Must obtain a Grade D1 certificate issued by the California State Water Resource Control Board and a Water Treatment Operator Grade TI certificate issued by the California State Water Resource Control Board within 18 months of employment. Bilingual employees may be eligible for 5% additional pay.
