The Napa Sanitation District is currently accepting applications for one full-time position of Safety, Training & Fleet Maintenance Officer. This class serves a dual function with responsibilities including a broad spectrum of the District’s safety and training element, as well as fleet maintenance functions.
Under direction, the Safety, Training & Fleet Maintenance Officer will plan, organize, coordinate and implement comprehensive safety programs for the District; take and recommend action to ensure compliance with State and Federal safety regulations and requirements; develop and maintain on-going programs to provide training for employees on safety procedures; and ensure maintenance on District vehicles and equipment.

Probationary period: 12 months is the length of the probationary period.
Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school and an Associates of Arts/Science Degree in risk management or a related field supplemented by courses in various aspects of industry safety including industrial hygiene, confined space entry and handling of hazardous materials.
Experience: Four (4) years of experience as a safety professional in a process-related industrial setting. Experience should include developing and delivering safety-related employee training.
License or Certificate: Possession of a Class “C” CA driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Possession of a certification as a Certified Safety Professional by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals is preferred. Must obtain and maintain a Safety Management Specialist Certificate as issued by the Safety Center of California, or equivalent, within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
ADA Special Requirement: Must possess mobility to work in a standard wastewater treatment plant and standard office setting using hand and power tools and standard office equipment; stamina to climb and descend ladders, stand for long periods of time and work on uneven surfaces; and sufficient strength to lift and carry 50 pounds. Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
Other Requirements: Position requires the use of respiratory equipment for confined space entry training and possible emergencies, including the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (S.C.B.A.); therefore, the incumbent will be required at all times to be free of facial hair that would interfere with the use of a respirator to comply with Cal-OSHA standards.
