About the District and the Position
Truckee Sanitary District (TSD) is an award-winning public agency located in beautiful Truckee, California and just 15 minutes from Lake Tahoe.
TSD is seeking a motivated, qualified and experienced professional who will embrace TSD’s core values of Safety, Teamwork, Integrity, Communication and Service to apply for the open Controller position.
The Controller position is engaged in the development and implementation of the District’s accounting and financial activities, which among other responsibilities include staff supervision, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, treasury and banking, month-end and year-end closing processes and reporting and related fiscal support services. The position leads the annual financial statement audit and steers the development and administration of the annual budget.
This is a professional accounting classification, performing the full range of finance and accounting work with integrity, discretion, and independent judgment. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions at this level possess a high level of initiative for continuous process improvement and professional development
Our ideal candidate should have a solid and demonstrated background in accounting, including knowledge of GAAP / GASB, proficient with financial software (software conversion experience a plus but not required). Additionally the ideal candidate has strong experience in leading audits, budgeting, and forecasting including overseeing compliance and required filings. Beyond technical skills, the ideal candidate has solid multi-tasking and organizational skills and can translate and communicate complex financial data into clear insights for non-financial colleagues.
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or a closely related field. Experience: Five (5) years of responsible professional accounting experience, three (3) years of supervisory experience. Experience may be substituted for required education.
Salary: $10,520 - $13,110 monthly (exempt)

The Truckee Sanitary District (District) is the public agency responsible for the collection and conveyance of wastewater in the greater Truckee, California area. Located in the Sierra Nevada, Mountains just 10 miles from Lake Tahoe and less than an hour drive from Reno, Nevada, Truckee is known for its proximity to year round outdoor recreational activities including skiing, biking, hiking, and fishing. The District serves approximately 12,000 customers and maintains a collection system consisting of 200 miles of sewer mains and 42 lift stations.
