The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District (SDAPCD) invites your interest for its Deputy Director position.
This exceptional executive position will be a strategist and innovator who strives for continuous improvement. The selected candidate will assist in providing leadership and oversight over the Administrative Services and Business Support Services Divisions, as well as Information Technology for the SDAPCD.
The Deputy Director provides executive level support and oversight over the following APCD programs:
Administrative Services – Oversees Human Resources, Clerk of the Board, Public Records and Document Retention, and Safety
Business Support Services – Manages Budget, Accounting, Permit Processing, and Fleet/Facilities
Information Technology – In collaboration with the County Technology Office, manages all IT services and support for the District.
The ideal candidate will possess a professional history that demonstrates the following leadership competencies and attributes:
Provide overall leadership and oversight for all SDAPCD programs to ensure a customer service- oriented management philosophy which transcends all levels of the organization
Shape divisional processes, procedures, and goals that maintain and enhance our vision
Implement strategic and innovative operational planning that anticipates future consequences and maintain SDAPCD at the forefront of Air Quality Management
Stimulate and actively initiate change in the organization while carefully considering the implications and impacts of decisions across time and on others
Demonstrate organizational acumen and political awareness
Build, lead, and motivate highly-performing teams to be accountable; support multiple, concurrent and complex projects, and reach challenging goals
Leadership experience in engaging, embracing, and celebrating the culture, diversity, and values of the community; and knowledge of practices that support diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency
Strong experience in oversight of budget, fiscal, information technology, and human resources operations
The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District (SDAPCD) is a regional government agency that regulates sources of air pollution within San Diego County. SDAPCD is nationally recognized with award winning programs and a budget of $155 million with 178 staff positions for Fiscal Year 2025-26. The SDAPCD is governed by an 11-member Board comprised of County, City, and public representatives. SDAPCD consists of six (6) major divisions: Air Quality Monitoring and Technical Services; Air Quality Planning, Incentives, and Rule Development; Engineering; Compliance; Business Support Services, and Administrative Services.
Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor's degree AND five years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the classification. Experience must include four years of management level experience and at least one year of supervision. A master's degree or higher degree may substitute for a total of one year of experience and cannot be applied to the required one year of supervision.
