The Solano County Water Agency is seeking an experienced Lead or Supervisor responsible for planning and overseeing the work of the Water Agency’s field restoration team. Essential duties include:
Supervises, plans, organizes, assigns and reviews work of technical staff in the areas of land management, restoration, and fleet/equipment maintenance and operation.
Participates in the selection of staff; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to develop skills and correct deficiencies; evaluates employee performance; implements discipline procedures.
Manages contracts and consultants and oversees the preparation for proposals and permits.
Coordinates and runs Agency field projects.
Maintains environmental and human health/safety compliance for the Agency and works closely with the Agency’s Safety Coordinator.
Prepares documents and correspondence for the Agency related to the department.
Creates and monitors budget for assigned programs.
Represents the Field Department for Agency wide meetings.
This position works primarily in the office with approximately 60% office and 40% field. This position is expected to be on call when field projects go past normal working hours or take place on the weekends, such as during planting events.

Education and Experience:Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college course work in environmental management, natural resources, biology, botany, or related field; and
Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in planning and implementing habitat restoration and enhancement projects, operating and maintaining heavy equipment and commercial vehicles, and environmental permit compliance which includes at least one (1) year of experience leading and directing the work of others.
Required License:Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. If applying from out of state, updated State drivers’ licenses is required within three months of employment.
License and Certification Incentive Pay Two (2) Qualifying Licenses and Certifications qualify for incentive pay:
Class A Driver’s License
Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) or Qualified Applicator License (QAL) with Right-of -way, Aquatic Weeds, or Landscape Maintenance from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.
Possession of 1 = 5% pay increase Possession of 2 = 10% pay increase
Ideal Candidate will have Skills, Experience, and Abilities with:
Experience in principals and practices of effective supervision and leadership, including work planning, assignments, review and evaluation, and training staff. Experience in budget creation and budget management for specific projects. Methods, materials, practices and equipment generally used in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of open and closed water supply systems and associated habitats. Techniques for effectively engaging with the public, vendors, governmental agencies, community groups and various business, professional, educational, regulatory, and legislative organizations.
SCWA is an independent special district created by the California Legislature for the conservation, development, control, and use of water. The Agency boundary includes all of Solano County and portions of the University of California – Davis campus in Yolo County. SCWA is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the United States Bureau of Reclamation’s Solano Project, which includes Lake Berryessa, Monticello Dam, the Putah Diversion Dam and Putah South Canal.
