Under general direction of the Chief Plant Operator, the Water/Wastewater Operator will operate, repair, and maintain the District’s water and wastewater treatment facilities, assist in the performance of a variety of chemical and bacteriological tests in the analysis of water according to standard methods and procedures; and to ensure water/wastewater system compliance with State and Federal regulations.
The Water Treatment Operator position requires a California Treatment Certification level T1, T2 or T3. This position will produce safe and high-quality drinking water for public consumption while following regulatory compliance at our 3 water treatment plants, while having the opportunity to operate, maintain and repair equipment such as pumps, valves, electric motors, UV, OSG’s, flow meters and SCADA controls. The Water Treatment Operator ensures that all plant operational tasks are performed in accordance with the operating procedures and parameters set by company policy. Staff appointed to this position will be knowledgeable and qualified to carry out the work designated to them in a safe and efficient manner.
The Wastewater Plant Operator position requires a California Wastewater Certification level I, II or III. The position will have the opportunity to operate, maintain and repair the wastewater treatment plants, equipment and machinery such as: pumps, valves, electric motors, screening devices, flow meters, activated sludge process, aerobic digesters, OSG, sludge drying beds, Sludge Drum press, influent and effluent reservoirs, spray irrigation systems and SCADA controls. The Wastewater Treatment Operator ensures that all plant operational tasks are performed in accordance with the operating procedures and parameters set by company policy. Staff appointed to this position will be knowledgeable and qualified to conduct the work designated to them in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Duties:
Participates in treatment processes, plant laboratory analyzes and the operation and maintenance of all plant equipment.
Monitors the performance and operation of the plant through the SCADA Interface.
Troubleshoots plant process issues and assists in equipment maintenance and repairs.
Notifies management of equipment or system faults and conducts instructions.
Assists in the maintenance and calibration of analyzers, turbidity meters and other instrumentation.
Assists in the clean-up and organization of the plant, workshops, warehouse, and parts inventory.
Operates machinery such as: Bobcats, tractors, and company vehicles.
Keeping daily records involved writing a logbook and entering data into a computer.
Ensures that all plant records and reports are completed, maintained accurately and on time.
Adjusts or alters chemical treatment of plant processes as required.
Responds to and controls accidental releases of hazardous liquids and performs confined space entries as required.
Observation of pump and motor operation and other routine monitoring of equipment.
Possession of a valid CA driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, is required.
High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
Possession of CA SWRCB Wastewater Certificate and/or Water Treatment Certification.
At least 1 year of operational experience in a water treatment facility preferred.
Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and the handling/working with hazardous chemicals
Ability to work weekends, overtime, and holidays when necessary.
Successfully passed a background check, pre-employment physical and drug test.
