Compensation
TDRPD offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Starting pay will be $40.24 per hour or $83,699 per year. This position comes with movement to grow and advance. Each year an employee will have a performance review and the opportunity to get a 4% merit increase. Most recently the District received a 3% cost of living adjustment.

About the District
The Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District (TDRPD) is a Nevada County special district in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. TDRPD has been providing recreation and park services for all members of our community since 1963. The District maintains and operates a variety of facilities and parks within its boundaries, enriching the quality of life for those who live and vacation in the Truckee/North Tahoe area. TDRPD enjoys a program participation rate of 75% among Truckee’s 17,000 and growing residents. TDRPD has a history of working with citizen groups to generate volunteers and funding for new facilities.
TDRPD’s mission is to inspire creative, active lives for a healthy mountain community. TDRPD reaches this mission daily by providing numerous active and passive recreation opportunities which includes both indoors and outdoors with groups and individuals. The goals of TDRPD align with the mission and can be found in the 2020-2025 Strategic Plan Objectives.
The District employs 45 full-time employees and up to 175 part-time employees in the peak season. TDRPD is one of the bigger employers in the area, providing full-time professional jobs, introductory first-time employment as well as stimulating part-time work for many different ages in the area.
The District’s facilities include the Community Recreation Center, the Community Swimming Pool, the Community Art Center, the Veterans Building, the Park Corporation Yard, Ponderosa Golf Course, the public Boat launch on Donner Lake, 37 public piers on Donner Lake, West End Beach on Donner Lake, and 6 Parks throughout Truckee for a total of over 182 Acres.
About the position
The Accountant operates under the Accounting Manager and two Accounting Technicians. This is a new position at TDRPD. The Accountant will work under general supervision and perform a variety of accounting work, including recording transactions, auditing, analyzing, and verifying fiscal records and reports, preparing financial and statistical reports, reconciling general ledger accounts, assists in preparing the District’s annual budget, assists in the annual audit process; prepares monthly and year-end accounting reports and schedules; and performs related work as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
Provides responsible professional and technical assistance in the administration and implementation of the District’s financial and accounting programs.
Prepares a wide variety of financial and statistical statements and supporting schedules in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting and auditing standards (GASB).
Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary accounts related to postings from payroll, accounts payable, cash receipts, and accounts receivable; prepares a variety of monthly financial reports including distributing monthly revenue and expenditure reports to departments.
Generates, reviews, analyzes, checks, and maintains various monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports; communicates necessary general ledger adjustments or corrections to management.
Reconciles and balances a diverse range of bank statements and related accounting documentation; research discrepancies to ensure accuracy and submits adjustments or corrections to management.
Maintains appropriate controls for fixed assets; initiates and ensures proper annual inventory of equipment/assets is conducted and databases are updated; prepares year-end fixed asset schedules.
Assists in the coordination of the annual audits, including conducting a variety of financial analysis and audits of accounts and transactions.
Prepares a wide variety of financial and statistical reports, including year-end, budgetary, payroll, and related reports.
Maintains financial systems and related databases; reviews accounts and financial documents to ensure accuracy of information and calculations and submits adjustments or corrections to management.
Education, Experience, Training
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or a closely related field required.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid driver’s license.

Received $50,000 grant from the Truckee Rotary Community Foundation to install new HVAC systems at our Community Arts Center
Refinanced District Certificates of Participation for a savings of $165,000 per year and $3.5 million total over the life of the bond
2015
District raised $1.9 million from community donations to build the Community Swimming Pool
Truckee Professional Rodeo donated funds to install a sponsor’s deck at the Rodeo Arena ($25,000 total cost)
District completed a section of the Tahoe Pyramid Bikeway from Farad to Puny Dip at a cost of $634,000 with a State of California grant for $425,000 and $209,000 donation from the Tahoe Pyramid Bikeway Foundation
Phase 4 of the Truckee Bike Park was completed with volunteer labor and community donations at a cost of $100,000
2014
Renovated our former recreation center into a Performing Arts venue with District funds of $200,000 and community donations of $100,000 in services, material and labor
Working with the Truckee Donner Railroad Society, a miniature riding train was installed at Truckee River Regional Park that's given over 6,000 rides free-of-charge
Phase 3 of the Truckee Bike Park was completed entirely with volunteer labor and community donations at a cost of $90,000
In conjunction with and funded by the Truckee Public Art Committee, artistic bike racks were installed at various parks

Constructed second phase of Truckee Bicycle Pump Track with volunteer labor and community donations with material costs at $60,000 in addition to a District contribution of $15,000
2012
Constructed one-acre Truckee Bicycle Pump Track (to compliment current BMX track) entirely with volunteer labor and community donations with material costs at $50,000 along with a District contribution of $15,000
2011
Created a volunteer Public Art Commission which creates public art displays at the Community Recreation Center showcasing adult and youth art on a quarterly basis
2010
District received Best Recreation & Park District in the State of California from the California Association of Recreation & Park Districts
2009
Constructed 40,000 sq.ft. Community Recreation Center at $7 million under-budget
New facility includes a two-court gymnasium, indoor running track, exercise equipment, two climbing walls (top-rope and bouldering), preschool/afterschool rooms, dance/exercise rooms, community classrooms, meeting spaces, pro kitchen facilities, District offices, community art displays, various seating areas and fireplaces.
Funded with grants ($785,000), developer fees, donations ($130,300), and certificates of participation, the new Community Recreation Center won the award for the Best New Facility in the State of California
2008
Town of Truckee, Truckee Airport District and Truckee Donner Land Trust purchased a local private golf course and donated it to TDRPD at a cost of $3.6 million
Ponderosa Golf Course is now operated by TDRPD and open to the public at reduced rates
