The District is seeking to fill one vacant Collection System Operator position. This position will be filled at an Operator I, II, III or IV level depending on experience and qualifications.
The Ojai Valley Sanitary District (District) provides sanitary sewer service, collection & treatment, for residents of the City of Ojai and the unincorporated Ojai Valley.
This position performs cleaning, maintenance, repair, and construction of wastewater collection lines at levels ranging from an entry level Operator to an advanced journey-level Operator performing more complex & difficult repair and maintenance activities required. An Operator III or IV may functionally lead less experienced Operators. Operators of all levels operate under the supervision of the Collection System/Treatment Plant Operations Manager. In all Operator levels when experience and skill increase, less supervision is required to perform the more complex tasks. Position requires frequent overtime, emergency call outs, regularly scheduled standby duty, and some weekend availability.
Candidate must have the experience, knowledge and ability to:
Perform skilled and semi-skilled advanced preventive and corrective maintenance on wastewater collection facilities including cleaning, repairs, and CCTV; Participate in construction, maintenance, and repair work involving the wastewater collection system; Operate heavy machinery to perform line cleaning, root control operations, debris removal, and disinfection operations; Provide technical information and assistance to management staff regarding assigned functions; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures, and programs; Prepare and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to duties and assigned activities; Communicate with other staff, personnel, and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.
Possession of a valid Class B California Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to District insurance carrier. Education equivalent to completion of twelfth grade or equivalent experience.
Operator I = One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those assigned to the Collection System Operator I in the construction or maintenance of wastewater collection systems and appurtenant equipment. Possession of a Grade I Wastewater Collection System Certification from California Water Environment Association.
Operator II = Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those assigned to the Collection System Operator I in the construction or maintenance of wastewater collection systems and appurtenant equipment. Possession of a Grade II Wastewater Collection System Certification from California Water Environment Association.
Operator III = Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those assigned to the Collection System Operator II in the maintenance of wastewater collection systems and appurtenant equipment. Possession of a Grade III Wastewater Collection System Certification from California Water Environment Association.
Operator IV = Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those assigned to the Collection System Operator III in the maintenance of wastewater collection systems and appurtenant equipment. Possession of a Grade IV Wastewater Collection System Certification from California Water Environment Association.
