The District is seeking to fill one vacant Environmental Compliance Inspector position.
This position will be filled at an Inspector I, II III or IV level depending on experience and certification.
The Ojai Valley Sanitary District (District) provides sanitary sewer service, collection & treatment, for residents of the City of Ojai and the unincorporated Ojai Valley.
This position Performs fixture unit counts on commercial businesses every three years to determine their sewer service charges, conducts annual inspections of restaurants and other food service establishments to ensure compliance with the district code of regulations and prevent sewer blockages, inspects industrial facilities with permits requiring annual monitoring of wastewater discharge quality and quantity, reviews and approves Private Sewar Laterals (PSL) inspection reports and issue certificates of compliance as needed, responds to USA dig alerts and marks the location of sewer lines to prevent damage during excavation activities, performs other field sampling duties, such as installing and adjusting sampling equipment, preserving samples, performing field tests, and technical calculations for pollutant limits, interacts with District staff, Committees, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to timely address questions and complaints, maintains accurate and detailed records and reports and assists in updating and maintaining the accuracy of District plans, coordinates maintenance and inspection and activities of District regulatory restoration projects, assists collection system personnel in identification and coordination of maintenance activities and performs related duties as required.
Position may require frequent overtime, emergency call outs and some weekend availability.
Candidate must have the experience, knowledge and ability to:
Interpret and apply District policies, procedures, and ordinances, advanced application of current principles, practices, and procedures related to the inspection and compliance of facilities within a wastewater collection and treatment system, pertinent local, State, and Federal laws, rules and regulations relating to inspection and compliance of a wastewater system and the surrounding environment, public works construction inspection at journeyman level, safe work practices, applicable software, Interpret local, State, and Federal laws, rules, and regulations and inspect projects to comply with same, prepare accurate written technical reports; maintain accurate records, collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data, reaching valid conclusions, ensure compliance with District policies and procedures, perform basic math functions, perform research and analytical work, prepare various reports; maintain records, use all senses (sight, hearing, smell) to detect and ensure proper operation of sewerage facilities, use locator equipment, CCTV equipment, metal detector, and miscellaneous industry related equipment and hand tools to perform job functions, communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the public, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, and the public and operate and use modern office equipment.
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to District insurance carrier. Education equivalent to completion of twelfth grade or equivalent experience.
Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Water Science, Environmental, Engineering, Construction, or a related field AND five years of experience in water and/or wastewater treatment and/or collections or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Water Science, Environmental, Engineering, Construction or a related field AND three years of experience in water and/or wastewater treatment and/or collections.
Possession of CWEA Environmental Compliance Inspector Certification Grade I or higher.
A 5% pay supplement will be given for possession of CWEA Environmental Compliance Inspector Certification Grade II.
A 10% pay supplement will be given for possession of a CWEW Environmental Compliance Inspector Certification Grade III.
A 15% pay supplement will be given for possession of a CWEA Environmental Compliance Inspector Certification Grade IV.
