Position: External Relations Intern
Reports To: Director of Digital Strategy and Branding
This internship will provide the opportunity to experience all areas of external relations, including communications, marketing, digital, social media, and video production in one of the premier Division I collegiate athletic conference offices. This position will be exposed to and involved in the ongoing development of West Coast Conference initiatives and provide hands-on experience and learning opportunities.
Principal Functions:
Assist with the Conference’s external relations efforts. Examples of associated tasks include:
Contribute to external projects related to the promotion of the Conference and member institutions.
Assist with coverage of events throughout the academic year on all platforms.
Assist with execution of social media strategy, including the development of creative visual content for use on all platforms and other external facing areas.
Develop, post, and update content on WCCsports.com, including news releases and feature content.
Assist with planning and coverage of championship events, including participation onsite at select events.
Contribute to conference record keeping efforts related to achievements, statistics, and other communications projects.
Participate in planning meetings and video conferences with conference staff and membership.
Participate in the development and implementation of the annual communications marketing and branding strategy.
Contribute to archival process of all written assets, including publications, record books, and other data.
Assist with sponsorship tracking, execution, and fulfillment. Participate in coordination and execution of conference-wide marketing initiatives.
Assist with digital network broadcast administration.
Other projects and responsibilities based on areas of interest and experience.
Additional Information.
The start date of the internship is August 1, 2023, and the end date is June 30, 2024. This is a 20-hour a week internship with hours arranged with supervisor. The intern will be paid $16.75/hour, and the internship does not include benefits.
This position will be mostly remote, but the intern must live in the Bay Area. Some travel will be required and will be only reimbursed from the Bay Area to event location.

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements:
Demonstrated experience with the WCC’s core values of integrity, servant leadership, inclusion, excellence, innovation, communication, and collaboration.
Demonstrated enrollment towards or completion of, a Bachelor’s, Master’s or equivalent degree required.
Athletics administration and/or sports management experience or related volunteer experience preferred.
Demonstrated high-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects) and Microsoft programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required. Proficiency and experience with Apple computers preferred.
Effective professional communication, both orally and in writing. Proficiency in drafting and editing written communications.
Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, the West Coast Conference and its institutions’ programs and/or higher education preferred.
