Calaveras County extends from the Central Valley southeast of Sacramento up to the high Sierras. The County’s historic gold rush towns are home to thriving wine, tourism, and outdoor recreation industries. The Calaveras County Water District provides water and wastewater service to a majority of Calaveras County’s residents. CCWD also serves raw water to irrigation customers and owns two hydroelectric projects. The District also has County-wide water resources planning jurisdiction, which includes three watersheds (the Stanislaus, Calaveras, and Mokelumne rivers), and a portion of the critically over-drafted Eastern San Joaquin Groundwater Basin.
