The City of Ventura is hiring! The City of Ventura’s Parks and Recreation Department has (2)two immediate vacancies for the position of Parks Supervisor. One Parks Supervisor is responsible for the Beautification and Maintenance section within the Parks Division. The second Parks Supervisor is responsible for the Parks Facilities Maintenance team.
The Parks Supervisor classification is a first-line supervisory position in the Parks and Recreation Department. The supervisor is responsible for the direct oversight, supervision and evaluation of an employee work unit, functioning independently while exercising considerable independent judgment and making sound decisions. This classification is distinguished from the supervising manager classification in that the latter has management responsibility over a variety of functional areas.

What You’ll Do
The Beautification and Maintenance Parks Supervisor reports to the Parks Manager and is responsible for the Graffiti Abatement and Urban Beautification teams. This position supervises and directs clean-up efforts of homeless encampments, large debris removal, graffiti removal on public property, coordinates and partners with community clean-up efforts. In addition, the supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising a section and/or provides contract management in the Parks Division of the Parks and Recreation Department.
The Parks Facility Maintenance Parks Supervisor reports to the Parks Manager and is responsible for the Parks Facilities Maintenance and the Ventura Aquatic Center Maintenance teams. This position supervises and directs all maintenance projects of all park amenities including but not limited to park amenities such as basketball courts, tennis courts, BBQ & picnic areas, kiosks, perimeter paths & fencing, lighting and is responsible for creating scopes of work for contracted projects and overseeing contracted work. The position also oversees a team of 4 full time employees and 2 extra-help team members.
The Department may rotate or cross-train supervisors between sections. The incumbent may be required to work stand-by on a rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed. Incumbents must be able to respond within a 45-minute time frame.
Incumbents may be assigned to any of the following areas: Parks Maintenance, Urban Forestry, Parks Facilities Maintenance, Beautification and Maintenance, or Park Contract Maintenance.

Position Qualifications
A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to completion of a bachelor's degree in a related area and two years of responsible experience in park maintenance or landscape construction, OR a related Associate's degree and four years of experience, OR six years of experience. One year lead or supervisory experience is required.
License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver license may be required.
Certificates: Depending on assignment, possession of, or the ability to obtain a California pesticide applicators certificate within six months of employment is required. A California pest control advisors license may also be required. An Aquatic Facility Operator certificate is desirable.

Salary: $73,941.09 - $99,081.63 Annually DOQ
