The Senior Accountant is part of the Finance team, reporting to the Director of Finance, responsible for planning, administering, and performing a variety of complex professional accounting, fiscal, budgetary and administrative functions. Duties include:
Maintaining and reconciling a variety of ledgers and accounts; researching and analyzing accounting transactions; posting, balancing and reconciling the general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
Planning, prioritizing and reviewing the work of staff assigned to a variety of technical and clerical accounting duties.
Preparing and/or reviewing a variety of bank reconciliations, claims, reports and schedules for accuracy and completion.
Assisting with annual budget development and implementation including personnel budget; monitoring budgets for divisions and/or departments; researching and analyzing transactions to resolve coding problems.
Preparing and/or reviewing a variety of complex financial reports in conformance with internal and external reporting requirements.
Coordinating and leading the accounting for the District’s capital assets ensuring compliance with District policy and government reporting requirements; analyzing projects for construction in progress and capitalizing additions once placed in service; working with departments to identify additions and retirements; reconciling capital assets and accumulated depreciation to general ledger to ensure records are balanced properly.
Coordinating grants and related audits by monitoring, reporting and maintaining grant budgets, activities and expenditures, grant compliance documents and records; assisting with financial compliance issues.
Researching and implementing new government accounting and financial reporting requirements and making recommendations for changes in policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, leading the design, testing and implementation of new technology systems and processes.
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, leading the coordination of the annual audit and the preparation of the annual financial reports.
The qualifications include:
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration or closely related field.
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience performing professional level accounting, payroll, financial reporting, cash management and utility billing.
The salary range is $49.04 - $58.84 per hour plus generous retirement and health benefits. The recruitment is open until filled.
