The current vacancy for Recreation Coordinator at EDH CSD supports our Aquatics program and performs professional work in the development and direction of a variety of aquatic activities designed to meet the needs and interests of the community. This position will oversee aquatic staff of Pool Managers, Head Guards, Swim Instructors, and Lifeguards during instruction and public swim hours. Plans, promotes, and directs aquatics programs and events for a wide variety of age groups, including American Red Cross Lifeguard Training classes, swim lessons, public swim, Junior Lifeguard program, pool rentals and swim clinics. Oversees and creates the scheduling of Pool Managers, Head Guards, Swim Instructors, and Lifeguards to ensure proper staffing levels during all hours of operation. Maintains records and creates reports on recreation programs and facility use. This position will also have responsibilities that will include other Recreation programming areas outside of Aquatics.
The following certifications are highly desirable and must be attained within a certain time frame after hire:
Valid Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate issued by the American Red Cross. Valid Title 22 First Aid for Public Safety Personnel issued by the American Red Cross. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for supporting recreation program implementation; work is performed at a variety of recreation sites, including the District's playgrounds, parks, facilities, pools, local schools and other sites. This classification is distinguished from the next higher level of Recreation Supervisor in that the latter is a first level direct supervisor with overall responsibility for one or more programs units within the Recreation Department.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Accepts responsibility for organizing, implementing and coordinates the activities of one or more District recreation programs, such as youth development, summer camp, day camp, after school, preschool, teen, sports, senior center, and volunteer programs and special events. Receives and responds to public inquiries about program offerings; promotes public awareness of available recreation services; ensures excellent customer service is provided to the public. Leads and oversees the work of recreation staff and/or volunteers; recommends disciplinary actions to Recreation Supervisors as needed; prepares employee/volunteer schedules; verifies and checks staff/volunteer timecards; submits timecards to Recreation Supervisor or appropriate personnel. Plans program content on a monthly/periodic basis; prepares monthly calendars listing program activities and themes; reviews plans and calendars with a Recreation Supervisor for approval; may purchase necessary supplies with authorization; identifies and schedules site locations and needed equipment; prepares and maintains program and event schedules; sets up for and cleans up after all program activities. Researches new program ideas; identifies and sources staffing and materials needed for program implementation. Develops, coordinates and implements one or more areas of assigned recreation programs; oversees classes, activities, and programs for participants, staff and volunteers; may instruct special classes and staff/volunteer training. Monitors and directs program activities; handles discipline needs; completes accident and incident reports and follows up with parents when necessary; speaks with parents regarding their concerns and complaints; takes roll call periodically throughout the day; tallies participants hourly attendance in programs; tracks daily attendance; sort participant timecards into folders. As assigned, works with the public to assist them in registering classes and events; facilitates the scheduling and payment process. Handles disciplinary issues with program participants and through interactions with parents; when unable to resolve issue, refers to Recreation Supervisor. Maintains a variety of records and reports on program activities, attendance, supplies and other pertinent information. May assist the Recreation Supervisor in creating and developing recreation program components including manuals, guidelines and procedures. Conducts research regarding assigned areas; drafts reports and other written materials; and submits to supervisor for approval. Creates flyers and other promotional items; arranges field trips; works special events, including teen and youth dances, holiday activities, etc. Assists in the organization, implementation and evaluation of rules and procedures Performs related duties as required
Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by 60 units of college level coursework in recreation, early education, liberal studies, physical education or a related field, and two (2) years of recreation program operational support experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 45 days of starting work.

The El Dorado Hills Community Services District was formed on May 21, 1962 by County Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 98-62 and under Government Code §61600 as an independent special district. The CSD serves a large, densely developed suburban population located east of the Sacramento County Line and mostly north of Highway 50. Major access roads/inhabited corridors include Highway 50, El Dorado Hills Boulevard, Silva Valley Parkway, Green Valley Road, Francisco Drive, Salmon Falls Road, Bass Lake Road and Latrobe Road. The EDHCSD boundary encompasses approximately 28 square miles (18,079 square acres) and the District serves the most populated community in the county.
The CSD owns and manages approximately 535 acres of land including 254 acres of parks and 281 acres of open space. We have a full time staff of 27 park and recreation professionals and support staff, in addition to over 150 part time and seasonal employees. Our annual budget is over $8 million.
