The Parks & Recreation Department currently has (2) two vacancies within the department to include a Program Coordinator for Special Events and a Program Coordinator for the Youth Services-After School Programs.
The Recreation Program Coordinator for the Youth Services-After School Programs, under general supervision, plans, promotes, implements, and provides oversight of youth services including out-of-school time programs, spring, summer and winter camps, and the Fun on the Run mobile recreation program. The position also contributes to youth development programs and events along with other recreational activities designed to meet the needs and interests of the community. The coordinator has the opportunity to develop and implement program curriculum, facilitate staff training and supervise teams of staff and volunteers. This position will work a set schedule of Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

The Recreation Program Coordinator-Special Eventsfocuses on developing, organizing and coordinating a variety of special and major community events for the City of Fairfield. Currently there are five signature community events which are held in the downtown area and on weekends and/or evenings.
Highly qualified candidates will have direct experience of managing and coordinating City-sponsored events and special activities. The position is responsible for all aspects of event coordination, including but not limited to initiating and managing third party contracts for services, insurance compliance, permitting, health & safety protocols, City policy and procedures; traffic control; marketing and promotion; and serves as the department representative and liaison with various departments, organizations, agencies, and community service groups. This position will work a flexible schedule based on programmatic needs including evenings, weekends and holidays.
The position requires excellent organizational, communication and time management skills; the ability to negotiate contracts, solicit volunteers, and collaborate with stakeholder partners. The ideal candidate will possess characteristics commensurate with public servanthood-friendly, professional, accessible, collaborative and transparent; and has the ability to remain calm and proactively handle arising issues and troubleshoot emerging problems that may occur on the event day(s).
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
A minimum of (2) two years of progressively responsible experience in the development and coordination of programs, services, activities and events are required. Experience in recreation programs with the public is highly desirable.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Depending on assignment, possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License may be required.
