Organizational Background: The Nevada County Resource Conservation District (District) was officially formed on January 4, 1944 and is supported by local taxpayers through a small tax assessment. The District is a special district organized under Division 9 of the California Public Resources Code and authorized to provide conservation work within its boundaries. The original District boundaries included 54,600 acres in the Chicago Park and Wolf Creek areas. Since that time, the boundaries have been expanded at least twelve times, and now include all of Nevada County (974 square miles- 623,360 acres) and a portion of Sierra County.
