The Position (One Vacancy) Working under general supervision in a team environment, the Control Systems Specialist is responsible for installing and maintaining various electronic monitoring, control, and communication equipment, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens essential to ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of the District treatment plant, pumping stations, and recycled water facilities. The Control Systems Specialist is responsible for implementation of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system projects related to new or modified facilities. This work may include application configuration, application design, graphics development, and other activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and standards. The Control Systems Specialist also performs routine and complex Electrical/Instrumentation Technician duties and special projects related to the SCADA system as required. | |
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: | |

System Administration
Assumes responsibility for covering a part of the work assignments of co-workers during short absences as assigned. Participates in District committee and staff functions. Participates in teams engaged with process and customer service improvements and cross-training. Performs other work consistent with the responsibilities assigned to the classification and necessary to the effective operations of administrative support services and the District. |
EDUCATION: Associates degree in electrical technology, instrumentation, industrial automation technology or closely related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in electrical, instrumentation, industrial automation technology or process control maintenance and repair.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of four (4) years of journey level experience as an electrical/ instrumentation technician, including a minimum of 2 years' experience operating and maintaining software and hardware in a process control environment, preferably in the wastewater industry.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS:
A valid California State Class C license must be maintained at all times. Continued maintenance of valid driver’s license in compliance with established District vehicle operations standards, and the ability to be insured for the operation of a vehicle/District vehicle in accordance with the terms and conditions of the District’s insurance program are conditions of continued employment.
California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Electrical/Instrumentation Technology Certification (Grade II) is required prior to the completion of probationary period. ISA certification as a Control Systems Technician level II is highly desirable.
Failure to obtain and maintain the required certifications may result in termination of employment.
