UC San Diego Athletics is now seeking qualified applicants for the position of Graphic Design-Social Media Intern.
The incumbent will assist in brand management and content creation for each of department’s external units with a specific focus on producing digital and print creative assets, managing social media activities, executing graphic design projects for the intercollegiate athletics department. The Graphic Design-Social Media Intern will create, implement, and execute comprehensive graphic and multimedia projects and assist with recruiting collateral. Maximizing interest, driving attendance, creating affinity and revenue opportunities while increasing campus engagement, are all key components of this role.
The Intern will assist with the visual brand of Athletics across print and digital platforms, including large-format design such as facility graphics. They will need to possess an innovative and creative mind to assist in the production of digital media assets and graphic design strategies that work cooperatively with the areas of communication, marketing, video production and game day staff during a transformative time for UC San Diego Athletics. The incumbent will follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and possess a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all of its forms.
This position will handle the collection and analysis of social media data reports while utilizing Sprout Social (Social publishing tool). They will coordinate all department graphic design efforts and assist with the maintenance of department branding guidelines. Incumbent will assist in the day-to-day content management for UC San Diego athletics social media accounts and aid in helping tell the unique and engaging stories of UC San Diego athletics through all social media channels as well as interacting with the fanbase.
The Intern will also help establish and cultivate relationships with the University social media content creators in order to enhance and promote positive collaborative relationships. They will also update/development ancillary content for UCSDtritons.com and related official athletics channels.
QUALIFICATIONS Prior experience in graphic design, motion graphics and social media, preferably in an athletics setting.
Proficiency in the use of basic computer programs relevant to job duties, including Adobe Creative Suite programs (After Effects, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and project management tools such as Microsoft Teams, Asana and various content management systems.
Excellent and highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to engage with constituents, on and off campus and with individuals of all ages and of varying backgrounds.
Adaptable and quick thinking and perform well under potentially stressful situations.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS Must be able to work the frequently non-conventional hours is required (including evenings, weekends and holidays).

•UC San Diego sponsors 23 intercollegiate sport programs that currently compete in the Big West Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Western Water Polo Association, Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association, and Western Fencing Conference.
•As of fall 2020 all Triton athletic teams compete at the NCAA Division I level, with the exception of the men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo, and men's and women's fencing programs, which compete at the NCAA “National Collegiate” level. Men's rowing is not sanctioned by the NCAA and competes as a member of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association.
•During its recently-concluded 20-year affiliation with NCAA Division II, UC San Diego consistently ranked as one of the most successful athletic programs in the nation, ranking among the top 10 nationally in the Learfield/IMG College Directors' Cup in 20 of the last 25 years – five of which were Division III. The program claimed the Director's Cup title as a member of Division III in 1998 and finished as runner-up three times while in Division II, including 2018-19.
•UC San Diego intercollegiate athletic programs have claimed 30 NCAA national championships in team sports, while 44 have finished as national runners-up and 49 achieved 3rd-place honors. Individually, 138 Triton scholar-athletes have earned national titles. All told, UC San Diego has won 276 national, regional, and conference championships.
•The most recent NCAA report indicates scholar-athletes at UC San Diego own a 4-class average graduation rate of 91 percent, the highest among Division II institutions and sixth among all institutions in Divisions I and II.
•Triton scholar-athletes have earned an impressive 1,389 All-America honors for athletics achievement over the years, while 82 have been named to Academic All-America teams and 37 have been awarded prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships.
•During its time as a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, UC San Diego claimed eight Robert J. Heigert Commissioner's Cup titles, including the 2018-19 season. The award is given to the CCAA member institution with the highest aggregate ranking in eight of the league's 13 championship sports.
