The City of Fairfield is growing their therapeutic recreation program! The department is searching for a highly motivated professional to expand current services and develop a comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation (TR) program for all ages within the community. The successful candidate will plan, coordinate and lead enrichment activities and programs for persons of all ages, with a special focus toward persons with disabilities including adults with dementia and Alzheimer’s and other special recreational needs. The position will develop a variety of adaptive and inclusive activities, programs, and classes for individuals with a broad range of abilities and age groups. Supporting local agencies and service providers is key as well as coordinating use of city facilities in support of their services. This opportunity is very exciting for individuals interested in blending their therapeutic recreation and community services backgrounds.
The duties include determination of care, activity and socialization needs of older adults being considered for enrollment in the Adult Day Program, and collaboration with family caregivers on care plans. Follows standards of California Code of Regulations, Title 22 and prepares mandated reports to the State as well as maintaining client records.
Special characteristics of the ideal candidate include patience and kindness, and a robust understanding of the challenges of persons with special needs including physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities. The position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
A minimum of (2) two years of progressively responsible experience in the development and coordination of programs, services, activities and events are required. Experience in recreation programs with the public is highly desirable.
A Bachelor's degree, preferably in recreation, or closely related field, is required.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid California Driver's License are required. The following are highly desirable: Recreation Therapist Certificate (RTS) Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Evidence of Title 22 Training
