The French Camp McKinley Fire District, originally formed in 1946, is located just south of Stockton in California's central valley. The District provides fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical services to an approximately 20 square mile area of unincorporated San Joaquin County. The District also provides contracted fire and emergency medical services to the Mountain House Community Services District. Service demand for the combined communities results in approximately 1800 calls for service a year. The combined service areas present hazards associated with high-density population centers, industrial complexes, major transportation corridors, health care facilities, and wildland interface.
The Fire Chief is a FLSA exempt/management position appointed and directed by the collective action of the Board of Directors to supervise the District in compliance with Board policies and legislative mandates. This is an at-will employment position.
Any combination of experience, education, and training that would likely provide the required skills and information in conjunction with required licenses, certifications, and physical requirements, is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain the skills and information would be:
Forty-five (45) accredited college upper or lower-division units in fire technology course credits equivalent to a California Community College Certificate in Fire Technology, or any state or nationally recognized fire service, vocational certification level equivalent to a California State Fire Academy. Valid EMT or Paramedic certification
Chief Officer's Certification, with five years full-time, paid employment as a fire service manager with any combination of prior experience at the level of Battalion Chief rank (or higher). May and/or prior significant staff assignments (such as Director of Training, Fire Marshal, or other section/division leader position) that would provide broad and extensive experience in a fire service administrative and supervisory capacity.
Certification from State Board of Fire Services as a Chief Officer within thirty-six (36) months from date of appointment or within a reasonable amount of time-based upon the availability of these courses.

The District offers a generous benefits package that includes:
•An annual salary of $100,000 - $120,000 DOE
