The Napa Sanitation District is currently accepting applications for a full-time position of Collection System Worker-in-Training and/or Collection System Worker I.
Under direct supervision of the Collections System Supervisor or Manager, the CSWIT and CSWI will perform a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater collection system. Example duties include installing and repairing main and lateral connections; operating hydro-cleaning and rodding equipment; install and clean manholes, clean outs and other drainage facilities; inspect underground wastewater collection pipes, lateral connections and appurtenances using closed circuit television equipment to locate leaks, breaks and roots; respond to customer calls for service, and maintain accurate records of work performed. The CSWIT is an entry-level class.

Education and Experience: CSWIT - Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of general maintenance and underground construction experience. Experience in operation of equipment and work installing or maintaining sewer or water lines is desirable. CSWI - Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year experience as a Collection System Worker-in-training with Napa Sanitation District (the District) or two years’ experience installing or maintaining underground sewer, water or storm drain pipelines.
License or Certificate: CSWIT – Possession of a Class “C” CA driver’s license and satisfactory driving record, and the ability to obtain a Class “B” license within six months of hire. CSWI - Possession of a valid Class “B” California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record. CSWIT: Must obtain a California Grade I Wastewater Collection Maintenance certificate within two (2) years of appointment. CSWI: Must possess a California Grade I Wastewater Collection Maintenance Certificate or obtain one within one (1) year of appointment.
Applicant will have a background and reference check, physical abilities test and, if applicable, a drug/alcohol test.
Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment and assistance from other staff. Must possess mobility to work in a standard shop setting and use standard maintenance tools and equipment, including a computer.
Other Requirements: Must be available for standby and response to off-hours emergency situations. Work requires outside exposure to all weather conditions with dust, noise, traffic, some potentially hazardous materials and electrical or heavy equipment.
Additional Salary Information: Salary varies by position. Worker-in-Training step 1 is $4,198/month; Worker I step 1 is $4,989/month.
