Under the general supervision of the Construction Supervisor, the Equipment Operator's responsibilities include heavy equipment operation, basic vehicle and equipment maintenance, various construction tasks as necessary, safety, and other duties as assigned related to capital improvement construction.
Essential Functions:
Expertly operates all District's heavy equipment, including tractor trailer unit, forklift, motor grader, water truck, rubber-tired loaders, service trucks, backhoe, rubber-tired backhoe, and directional boring machine.
Provides support to all members of the construction crew; performs pipe laying and semi-skilled tasks in general maintenance and construction.
Deals effectively and courteously with customers and the public.
Attends safety meetings and applies safe work practices.
Complies with the District's policies and procedures.
Leads Capital Replacement Program construction when Supervisor is not present.
Locates existing and new infrastructure; marks water mains and lays out job.
Prepares for the installation of new infrastructure which includes, but not limited to, potholing of existing utilities and setting alignment of new water distribution infrastructure.
Maintain accurate information to create a record of as-built drawings for tasks performed.
Education and/or Previous Work Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the knowledge and abilities to perform the position is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would include the following:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
At least five (5) years of experience with construction and heavy equipment operation.
License/Certificate:
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record free from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for a period of at least two (2) years.
Possession of a valid Class A California Driver's License within two (2) years from appointment to the position.
Possession of a California State Water Resources Control Board (CSWRCB) Grade 2 Water Distribution Certificate and Grade 1 Water Treatment Certificate or must take and pass the CSWRCB Grade 2 Water Distribution and Grade 1 Water Treatment Exams within three (3) testing cycles from appointment to the position. Must submit for the Certificate within ten (10) days of notification of passing Exam.
Other Requirements:
Completion of and satisfactory results of pre-employment drug test, physical examination indicating fitness for duty, DMV record review, and background investigation.
This is a Federally regulated DOT position subject to the District's Drug Prevention and Employee Testing Program, which is conducted in accordance with Title 49 CFR Part 40.
