Under the general supervision of the Capital Replacement Program Lead, responsibilities include assembly and installation of pipe; inspect, clean, maintain and repair the District's water lines; vehicle and equipment maintenance, various construction tasks as necessary, and safety, and other duties as assigned.
Cuts, threads, installs, and assembles pipe.
Sets up traffic safety devices prior to beginning of fieldwork.
Checks and uses proper safety precautions when entering confined spaces.
Excavates and repairs damaged sections of pipe.
Operates equipment such as whackers, vibrators, jackhammers, tampers, cutters, and water truck.
May operate backhoe and loader.
Repair or replace valves and fittings.
Performs a variety of semi-skilled heavy labor.
Deals effectively and courteously with customers and the public.
Attends safety meetings and uses safe work practices.
Ensures compliance with the District's policies and procedures.
Education and/or Previous Work Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
The equivalent of two years of responsible work experience in the assembly and installation of pipe and construction work.
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record free from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for a period of at least two (2) years.
Possession of a valid Class A California Driver's License within two (2) years from appointment to the position.
Possession of a California State Water Resources Control Board (CSWRCB) Grade 1 Distribution Grade Certificate; or pass the CSWRCB Grade 1 Distribution Exam within three (3) testing cycles from the date of appointment to the position. Must submit application for Certificate within ten (10) business days of notification of passing Exam.
Completion of and satisfactory results of pre-employment drug and alcohol test; physical examination (including X-Ray) indicating fitness for duty; DMV record review; and background investigation.
This is a safety-related position subject to the District's Drug Prevention and Employee Testing Program.
