The Town of Yucca Valley is 27 miles north of Palm Springs, 17 miles west of Twentynine Palms, and is bordered on the west by the San Bernardino Mountains and on the south by Joshua Tree National Park. HDWD provides water and sewer services to the Town of Yucca Valley and a portion of the unincorporated area of San Bernardino County. In 2017, construction began on the first of three phases of a centralized sewer system and Wastewater Reclamation Facility. Phase 1 of the Sewer Plan has recently gone into operation, and an Assessment District will need to be formed and funding/financing secured to implement Phase 2, to be completed by 2026.
The General Manager reports to the five-member Board of Directors, currently elected at-large, on a non-partisan basis, for four-year staggered terms (it is anticipated that districting will occur after the 2020 census data is available). Board Members share core values and work cooperatively. The FY2020/21 Water operating budget is $10.5 million with a $1.8 million CIP, and the Wastewater operating budget is $1.8 million with a $32,000 CIP. The District has about 50 authorized staff positions.
Prefer a bachelor’s degree in business/public administration, finance, accounting, engineering or a related field, as well as an MBA or MPA. Ten years of progressively responsible executive and management experience in a public agency is also preferred. Water distribution system experience is a plus.
