Under direction of the Director of Aviation, this position is responsible for the security and protection of civilian/commercial aviation passengers, visitors, aircraft, employees, property and facilities for both the Inland Valley Development Agency and San Bernardino International Airport. Work involves specialized law enforcement activities consistent with local, state or federal laws or regulations, report writing, budget and personnel management, training and related duties as required.
Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth.
Responsible for security of SBIAA and IVDA facilities and surrounding property.
Evaluates and ensures the effectiveness of the airport security program by observing activities, reviewing and evaluating practices, policies and procedures.
Supervises and evaluates the performance of part-time airport security officers including recruitment, continued training, evaluation, counseling, disciplinary actions, and termination.
Manages a fleet of SBD Airport Security marked vehicles.
Assures continuous accurate information flow between administration and the Airport Security Officers.
Prepare, present and manage the Security Division budget by developing and managing budgets, monitoring contracts, completion of purchase requisitions, and authorizing expenditures.
Participates in the development and implementation of Agency goals, objectives, policies and procedures, resource needs and the Security Division standard operating procedures.
Manages scheduling to assure efficient and effective use of personnel and budget resources.
Oversees security protection for civilian/commercial aviation, aircraft and passengers.
Investigates incidents and documents events in a report format for submittal and review by the Director of Aviation.
Performs liaison functions between agency tenants, contractors, and other internal and external customers, and provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders.
Coordinates law enforcement and security work with City, County, State and Federal Law Enforcement and other regulatory agencies.
Liaisons with the Airport Security Coordinator to support the requirements set forth in the TSA approved Airport Security Plan.
Performs related duties as required.
Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Typical education would include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university, or equivalent with no less than seven (7) years of progressively responsible sworn law enforcement experience with strong motivational, supervisory and organizational skills. Commercial airport related experience preferred.
