The Cordova Recreation and Park District is seeking a Recreation Superintendent, a Department Head position with the responsibility for the management of a comprehensive public recreation program. The Ideal Candidate
The candidate must have knowledge of the philosophy, principals, and practices of public recreation and comprehensive recreation program development. Substantial administration, budget, and business funding development experience is critical. The ability to foster relationships with key partners and stakeholders is essential. The next Recreation Superintendent should be prepared to: manage and participate in the implement goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; prepare and present complex verbal and written reports to the Board of Directors, other agencies, and community groups; develop and administer the Recreation Department annual budget by forecasting funds needed; staff liaison with the Friends of Cordova Park, Inc., a Charitable Foundation; establish and administer joint use agreements and affiliation agreements with other organizations such as school districts, local and state organizations; and analyze trends, demographics, and community conditions in the preparation of a variety of reports and memoranda on various parks and recreation related subjects.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required in Recreation Management, Leisure Services, or Public/Business Administration or closely related field.
Experience: At least five (5) years of full-time, increasingly responsible experience that includes three (3) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility. Knowledge and experience in program planning, swimming pool, sports center, or senior center operations, staff recruitment and training, the conduct of special events, coordination of volunteers, and new park development and renovation is preferred.
Additional Salary Information: Enrollment in CalPERS Retirement System: 2% at age 55 for classic members with reciprocity or 2% at 62 for new members or current members without reciprocity. The Cordova Recreation and Park District is one of the largest Independent Special Districts in Sacramento County. It encompasses over 75 square miles with over 120,000 residents of extraordinary diversity. The District administers a total of 438 acres which include over 40 parks and facilities including neighborhood parks, community parks, two community swimming pools, the Community Center at Hag...an Park, Cordova Senior Activities Center, Mather Sports Center, Cordova Public Shooting Center, and the Cordova Golf Course. The District has great potential for future growth and expansion and during the next few decades anticipates approximately 70 new parks will be built in the southeastern portion of the District. During this time, the population is estimated to double in size. Additionally, resources continue to be available to renovate existing parks and facilities. This provides the District and its employees a unique opportunity and challenge to create a legacy of parks, facilities, and recreation programs for present and future generations.
