Mesa Water District (Mesa Water®) is an AAA-rated special distinct that provides water service to customers in Costa Mesa, parts of Newport Beach, unincorporated sections of Orange County and John Wayne Airport, Join Mesa Water's Finance team in this key position! The Controller is responsible for administration of general accounting and revenue functions, budgeting and supervising assigned accounting staff. Under general direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller directs the performance of professional accounting and auditing functions requiring independent judgment and interpretation of policy, rules and regulations, assumes responsibility for all financial reporting and assists in the design and implementation of Great Plains system.
The Controller is a supervisory-level professional for the District's accounting functions. Requires advanced education, experience and background in finance and accounting with emphasis on accounting, budgeting, financial modeling and staff management/development. Strong attention to detail and specialized knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and systems is required.
MINIMUM & DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
Experience: Minimum six years of progressively responsible financial management experience, including three years of supervising staff in a public agency or corporate finance environment required.
Possession of Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is desirable. Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) and/or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) certification is highly desirable. Valid Class "C" California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
