The Public Affairs Specialist is a key member of the Public Affairs team. Under general supervision of the Public Affairs/Conservation Manager, this creative individual performs a variety of professional and administrative duties related to the development and implementation of the District's public relations efforts. The Public Affairs Specialist develops strategic internal and external communications efforts, works with community members, businesses, and civic leaders to enhance the understanding of District policies, programs and operations; prepares informational materials for distribution through the media, public meetings, and events and develops communications outreach programs for all of the District's primary functional areas. The incumbent is accountable for planning and accomplishing operational goals and objectives for furthering the District's mission while providing technical and functional support to the Public Affairs/Conservation Manager. The Public Affairs Specialist is classified as a non-exempt, general/confidential position.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The District is seeking a team-oriented individual with the ability to coordinate complex programs, plan for internal and external communications, public information, customer community and employee relations activities. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated person with considerable independent judgment that is knowledgeable of public relations programs and related activities.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field, and five (5) years of experience in public relations, public information, community relations, or outreach activities.
